About Nicholas
I’m a UX leader who believes the best ideas come from curiosity, collaboration, and a willingness to experiment—even if that means failing along the way. Design should feel like play, not pressure. That’s where the real magic happens.
With a deep love for prototyping, motion, design systems, and cross-functional teamwork, I turn complex challenges into user-centered solutions that spark joy—for both the business and the people we’re designing for.
I lead by lifting others up and valuing their ideas, keeping processes fun, and pushing boundaries together. Let’s build, break, and create something brilliant.
My UX story
I started in design through coding, learning HTML in high school, and expanded my skills to include CSS, JavaScript, React, and Python, building a strong foundation in both design and development.
In 2012, a role in manufacturing introduced me to Kaizen, lean processes, continuous improvement, user research, balancing customer and business goals, UI design, and collaborative teamwork, serving as the benchmark for my UX career.
After earning my B.S. in Digital Science in 2018, I’ve had the honor of collaborating with teams at top companies, UPMC Health Plan, ADT, Ibotta, Google Nest, and most recently — United Healthcare.
With a passion for design systems, prototyping, and motion design, I thrive on leading teams to create cohesive, intuitive user experiences that push the boundaries of innovation and functionality.
How I spend free time
I find peace and creativity in the art of Japanese gardens. I’m passionate about cultivating topiary and shaping bonsai trees in the traditional Niwaki style—where every cut is a careful balance of form and nature.
A lifelong musician, I enjoy playing guitar and drums. I've had several memorable experiences from performing at SXSW in Austin, TX to recording an album with legendary engineer Steve Albini (best known for recording Nirvana's last album).
I also love staying on top of industry trends, especially in prototyping and interaction design, by experimenting with new tools and techniques. I’m always looking for ways to push the boundaries of design and deepen my craft.
Whether it’s hiking, playing music, sculpting plants, or reading about the latest tech innovations, I stay inspired and connected to design through nature.
